Baden Vertongen

Baden practices as a lawyer, mediator, and arbitrator.  He has mediated across a range of issues, including farm debt, land disputes, employment issues, etc.  He is particularly experienced in dispute resolution process where one or more parties are Māori. 

In his legal practice, Baden has worked on a number of significant Treaty of Waitangi settlements and co-management arrangements.  He has also worked with iwi and Māori bodies on the development and operation of their governance structures, and now brings that experience into his mediation and dispute resolution practice.   Baden has also held a number of governance roles on community and Māori organisations, including as Tumuaki Tāne of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa (the Māori Law Society).  Baden’s whakapapa is to Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga.
