Richard Wilkins

Richard has extensive experience in supporting young people and their families. His background as a registered teacher and registered counsellor has enabled him to support and navigate young people experiencing challenges. Richard has worked both with young people in schools and under the care of Oranga Tamariki and ACC.

Key to his approach is making a trusting and effective connection in a way that makes them feel both safe and heard. Richard’s work as a School Guidance Counsellor has given him the compassion and insight to effectively support children to express themselves in a comfortable and sharing conversation.

A career highlight of Richard’s has been the successful development and delivery of a number of Adventure Therapy programmes for at risk and disengaged young people. These programmes used a variety of therapy approaches making use of the outdoors as a safe and empowering environment.
