Sija has been in practice since 2000, having specialised in family law throughout her career. She is a senior lawyer appointed by Family Courts to represent children in court proceedings.
In her career, Sija was a partner at Wellington Family Law from 2003 until 2019 and has worked as a Barrister since then. She is now based in the Wairarapa.
Her strengths are in assisting people to achieve an agreed resolution, as opposed to continuing litigation. It is better for parties, and the children, as they are often adversely impacted by the ongoing dispute(s), if the dispute is brought to an end more promptly.
Before training as a lawyer, Sija had a background in community work and social work as a qualified social worker. She completed the LEADR mediation course in 2010 and uses these skills in her work in the family court and in mediations.
Sija has two adult children, and four grandchildren who are now all teenagers. She has been a foster parent, and also gained a lot of experience working with children through her voluntary work with international exchange students.
