Sonya has extensive experience spanning over 25 years of engaging in therapeutic practices with children and families, experience in delivering Voice Of the Child reports and a deep commitment to providing a safe space for children. Sonya has a master’s degree in Applied Social Work, a BA in Psychology, and is a fully registered social worker and full member of the ANZASW.
Sonya’s experience ensures she is equipped with a strong skill set to be able to quickly build rapport and work with your child to ensure they are feel comfortable safe and heard. What she shares on their behalf is agreed upon by your child and together they create direct quotes to truly capture your child’s voice. This is then presented back to you in the mediation process in a respectful and diplomatic way that upholds and values all relationships. Your child may also be supported to explore how they feel about the sharing of their view, and to explore any potential impact for them and their relationships following this view being shared.
Sonya is primarily engaged in Primary and Intermediate schools as an onsite therapist. Her wealth of practice experience and warm personality supports her to provide a safe and welcoming space for your child. She is able meet your child at her office, a friendly private space in Gisborne, or in their own home. If you live out of the district she can offer support for child via Zoom. Feel safe with Sonya knowing your child will enjoy the process, feel heard and seen, and that you will gain a true and honest impression of your child’s views.
