Susan Ewen

I am an experienced family mediator and Voice of Child. I have been involved as a mediator in alternative dispute resolution since the 1980’s. I am an accredited mediator with the Resolution Institute of New Zealand and AMINZ. I have mediated numerous family disputes including care/contact arrangements, guardianship issues, (including relocation, medical treatment, schooling, name change), relationship property and estate matters. Alongside mediation, from 1983 until my retirement in 2025 I practiced as a family lawyer in all areas of family law. From 1989 I was appointed as Lawyer for Child and I have represented many children in Family Court cases. As Lawyer for Child I facilitated many meetings with parents, whanau and their lawyers. I have also represented incapacitated parties in the Family Court.

I am passionate about working alongside parents and whanau to achieve the best outcome for their children. I advocate for children to have a voice in decisions that concern them. As a Mediator I assist the parties to work through parenting issues and focus on their children. As Voice of Child I provide a safe space for children to talk with me. I am respectful and kind.

I believe communication is the key to resolving disputes and mediation enables parents to have conversations in a safe confidential space. I look forward to working with parents to achieve the best outcome for their children.
