Tony Stevens

Tony is a civil/commercial barrister and mediator. He has around 30 years’ experience in the law, with a focus on dispute resolution. He is available as a private civil/commercial mediator, and is a mediator/adjudicator for Fair Way dealing with commercial services issues.

Tony’s approach is engaging, flexible and pragmatic, with a focus on problem-solving. He is happy to roll up his sleeves to work through issues, or to think outside the square. His view is that access to justice is important. He says that life is too short to just litigate when mediation often offers better practical, effective, lasting outcomes.

As a lawyer, much of Tony’s work involves disputes, as a litigator, advocate and advisor. He acts for a broad range of clients, dealing with civil, commercial and property matters. He has particular experience re regulatory, trade, media, privacy/confidentiality, insurance, consumer, motor trade, transport, energy, incorporated societies and sports law. He is available as a mediator across those areas.

Tony is a member of the Law Society (NZLS), the Bar Association (NZBA), and an associate member of AMINZ. He has a First Class Honours Law degree and a BA in Politics. Tony has worked in the law, in NZ and the UK, in large commercial firms, a London borough council and at a boutique Wellington firm, where he was a partner for 10 years. He is a member of Capital Chambers in Wellington.
