Martha is of Māori/Scottish descent, and is a registered Social Worker, mediator, bi-cultural supervisor and Family Violence Facilitator. She has spent over thirty years working alongside whānau who have been impacted by trauma, violence or abuse.

Martha's strength is in kaupapa Māori practice with a bi-cultural lens, using Māori frameworks that are versatile to serve whānau of any ethnicity. She begins with whanaungatanga and whakapapa, the connections that tell people who they are and whose they are, and ensures communication is a priority so whānau know they are genuinely being heard.

She says she is proud of what she has achieved academically, particularly her Post-Graduate qualification in Bi-Cultural Supervision (Kaitiakitanga), alongside her registration as a Social Worker and her work as a mediator and family violence facilitator. She's just as proud of her own life journey and the hope it offers others with adverse childhood experiences. But her greatest achievement by far is her tamariki and mokopuna — watching her children grow into strong, grounded adults who know who they are and where they belong. Martha's whakapapa keeps her connected to the Far North, and outside of work you'll find her spending time with whanau, and enjoying the beautiful beaches of the far north, Mauri ora!!!!
