Business Development Manager - Auckland or Wellington

  • Are you passionate about helping organisations address conflict in the workplace?
  • Are you a successful Business Development Manager who is energetic & motivated?
  • An amazing opportunity to help build a new service line

Conflict and disputes in the workplace are a fact of life.  What matters most is how it’s dealt with, how people are treated, how mana is preserved, and what’s learned through the process to help things run smoothly in the future.

At Fair Way we have over 30 years’ experience in conflict and dispute resolution.  We’re trusted by many of Aotearoa’s most visible and complex organisations.  Over the years we have assisted hundreds of thousands of people through the resolution process.  In the last couple of years we've been busy taking that expertise and thinking about how it can help workplaces approach and deal with conflict in a constructive, effective and people-centric way.  One that tackles tough situations early, builds resilience and skill, and offers impartiality.

More recently, we’ve shaped our service offering, injected further talent and expertise to our operations team, talked to our clients, and experienced huge interest in partnering with employers to bring our independence to some of their toughest problems and priorities.

So with that done, we’re looking for the right person to lead the growth of our workplace service offering.  The fit here is vital, we need someone who gets us, gets what this is about, and knows how to get on with it. You will report to and work closely with our CEO.

Your background might be from the workplace services arena, it might be from the dispute resolution sector, or you might simply be a person who knows all about relationships and is new to our sector but motivated to learn.  What’s non-negotiable is your comfort in proactively creating opportunities, and doing the hard yards to build and manage a pipeline of opportunities to match our aspiration.

What will it take?

  • Experience and networks within public sector and large corporates.
  • A high level of business and sales acumen.
  • Experience in consultative selling with an ability to understand and articulate clients’ requirements and propose well-crafted, value-based solutions.

  • Proactivity and resilience.
  • A team player with a resourceful and collaborative approach to guiding and closing complex opportunities.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience working in/with Government networks or selling into Government.
  • Understanding and knowledge of workplace dispute resolution services.
  • An understanding of Tikanga Maori and Te Ao Maori.
  • Expertise in responding to and participating in formal RFP processes.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Generating leads and prospecting new business opportunities – you’ll love connecting with people and finding out how our services can help solve and prevent problems.
  • End-to-end management and influence over our Workplace Service business development pipeline inputs and outputs.
  • Building genuine trust and confidence to sustain strong long-term relationships with multiple C-level decision-makers.
  • Developing and delivering winning proposals that align with our clients’ requirements and Fair Way’s business strategy.

What we offer:

  • Competitive and transparent pay
  • An opportunity to participate and benefit from a profit sharing framework
  • Life and income protection insurance
  • Wellbeing benefits
  • Flexible working
  • An outstanding team and culture
  • Cultural capability learning and growth opportunities

What you need to know:

  • We’re committed to the Treaty of Waitangi, and whilst we don’t expect you to be expert in in this, we do expect our team to actively engage, learn, and grow their cultural capability and comfort, and we have a framework for this to occur within.
  • We care about our people, and deeply about the work we do.  With this comes an expectation that you bring your best, do your best and help others.
