Barbara is a Counsellor and was previously a Family Social Worker who understands how challenging it can be to all concerned when parents separate. She brings this depth of experience to the Voice of The Child role.

A key feature of Barbara’s practice is that children generally relax and chat freely during their meeting with her. Many children report that the meeting was fun. Her career background supports that she has a good understanding of child development and the effects of age and stage. Her feedback to parents is true to what children have given permission to share and is delivered with clarity and kindness. The wellbeing of children is always at the forefront.

Barbara is a mother and a grandmother who has personal lived experience in these issues and has a warm empathy to go alongside clear thinking about all family members involved in the separation. A much-enjoyed career highlight was the response of a child who, when told “I don’t have a magic wand, I will pass on what you want me to but it will be your parents who decide. If I did have a magic wand though, what would you want me to do with it”? The child, quick as anything, answered “Give it to me.”
